Training Center Complex (TCC) for the Colorado National Guard, Ft. Carson, Colorado Springs, CO
The new Training Center Complex (TCC) for the Colorado National Guard in Fort Carson Co., consisted of 165,195 square foot, 4‐story administrative, dormitory and training facility including administration area, supply rooms, medical exam rooms and 148 billet (lodging) rooms. The structure is made of reinforced concrete, steel and hollow core. Exterior finishes of the facility are a combination of masonry, glazing, concrete and metal panel systems; and the interior finishes consist of gypsum over metal studs, painted masonry or vinyl wall coverings. Site improvements include grading, utility services to the facility, a privately owned vehicle parking lot, access roads, concrete aprons and miscellaneous landscaping.
The project was constructed to the minimum standard of LEED‐NC Silver. Sustainable strategies include energy‐efficient systems, automatic controls, lighting and temperature controls in cadet rooms, and sun shades on the Eastern facade. Water conservation techniques include high‐efficiency fixtures within the barracks, use of a cistern to capture storm water for irrigation and selection of low‐water native landscaping species.
