First U.S. Consulate in Afghanistan, Mazar-e-Sharif, Afghanistan

Located on a six acre site for the U.S. Consulate at Mazar-e-Sharif, Afghanistan, FSA provided architectural and engineering services for the renovation of a 38,000 sf 1930’s hotel as well as 5,300 sf of new construction. The site design includes advanced physical security measures to meet OBO requirements, as well as a reverse osmosis plant, waste water plant and generators to make the complex a self-contained facility. The design focused on creating a functional and secure consulate that is code compliant, with an emphasis on preserving building character. Indigenous vegetation, materials, and finishes were used to enhance the local site.
